Abstract

Introduction: head injuries constitute a challenge for health services. Receiving undergraduate training in their care is a necessity and a challenge.
Objective: to characterize the scientific production on head trauma published in Cuban student scientific journals between January 2015 and June 2021.
Methods: a retrospective, descriptive and bibliometric study was carried out. The sample consisted of 9 articles; of which the typology, year of publication, number of authors, province and center of origin of the authors, number of references, number of articles per journal and number of citations received were analyzed.
Results: 77.8% of the articles were original where 2020 was the most productive year (55.6%). 44.4% of the articles were signed by 5 authors, 32.4% of the authors belonged to the province of Pinar del Río. The mean number of references per article was 19.9, the Price Index was found between 0.45 and 0.82; with an average of 0.75. 55.6% of the publications were made in the journal Universidad Médica Pinareña and the articles published in said journal also received the highest number of citations (85%).
Conclusions: student scientific production on head trauma is low, and the influence and visibility of the articles available based on the number of citations is small.
