Abstract

This paper exposes the results of a qualitative investigation that investigates the Perceptions of Rural Families and the incidence of a Routine Based Intervention (IBR) in their empowerment and in the development of their children with disabilities in a rural environment in Manabí. Routine Based Intervention has been selected as an intervention strategy because studies on the subject indicate its effectiveness in empowering families, who acquire the knowledge and skills necessary in the care of their children with disabilities as well as more skills to administer their own needs, consequently individual and family well-being is promoted. A case study with mixed design of descriptive scope was developed. The objective of this work was to analyze, through the IBR model, how the empowerment of participating families affects, as well as the development of their children. The results obtained reveal that the families participating after the intervention have developed skills and competencies that have favored positively in the care and development of their children with disabilities, taking advantage of the daily routines that are provided by their families and other caregivers.
