Differences between the entrepreneurial competencies of the millennials and centennials generation in the mayan area called camino real in the Yucatan Peninsula, Mexico

Abstract

Since 2020, it has been seen that young people from the Millennia and Centennial generations participate in economic, ecological and social activities in order to join working life in the best possible way. Data from the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (INEGI, 2020), indicates that 32,4 % of the Mexican population is made up of young people belonging to these generations and, although governments are making efforts to create jobs, the productive sectors have seen exceeded in the creation of these and the consequent hiring of workers, which translates into few opportunities for these generations. Entrepreneurship for the opening of new companies can help these young people in the creation of their own sources of employment, however, there is little information on the level of development of entrepreneurial skills of these Generations in the Mayan area of the Peninsula of Yucatan, Mexico. This study compares the most developed entrepreneurial skills of these generations. The study was of a quantitative approach of relational scope and non-experimental cross-sectional design, the instrument used was a questionnaire with a Likert-type scale based on the contributions of Santos and Barroso (2011). The results show a strong development in the skills of family culture and the need for the business to exist and an important area of opportunity for the skills of prior technical experience and a tolerant society, in both cases.
