Introduction: chronic kidney disease (CKD) has become a medical and public health problem that has acquired epidemic proportions. Objective: To determine the risk factors of chronic kidney disease (CKD) present in older adults with arterial hypertension belonging to the CMF # 9 of the "Pedro Borras" Polyclinic La Palma in the period from January 2020 to October 2022.
Methods: an observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out. The universe consisted of 258 older adult patients with arterial hypertension and the sample consisted of 227 patients who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria and were given a questionnaire that collected the following variables: age, skin color, APF of CKD, alterations of the renal profile, most frequent chronic non-communicable diseases and once the data were collected, statistical percentage measures were applied and presented in tables.
Results: the predominant age group was 76 to 80 years, male sex and white race. All patients had at least two risk factors, which coincide with the factors of CKD aggravation. Acute glomerulonephritis and renal lithiasis were the most frequent risk factors. Diabetic nephropathy and obesity were the most prominent chronic noncommunicable diseases. The most frequent renal profile alterations were glomerular filtration rate followed by creatinine, urea and uric acid.
Conclusions: the determination of the CKD risk factors present in the patients studied allows us to establish future prevention strategies.
