Abstract

Arterial hypertension is considered one of the most frequent cardiovascular diseases in the community. An observational, descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out with the objective of characterizing arterial hypertension in older adults 21, belonging to the Juan Bruno Zayas University Polyclinic, in the period from 2019 to March 2021. The universe consisted of 195 older adults attended in the clinic 21, of whom a convenience sample of 82 was selected. Theoretical and empirical methods were used, variables were selected that would give output to the proposed objectives such as: age group, sex, race, personal pathological antecedents, nutritional status, health culture, risk factors and associated quantiles per older adult, as well as the medication used in the control of the disease, the data obtained were processed and summarized in tables to which a percentage statistical analysis was applied, The data obtained were processed and summarized in tables to which a statistical analysis was applied, obtaining results such as 32,9 % of the age group between 60 and 64 years, 67 % of the female sex, 76 % had a white skin color, 55 % had a sedentary personal pathological history, 34 % had up to two associated risk factors, 51 % were overweight and 94,04 % used ACE inhibitors as treatment. 04 % used ACE inhibitors as treatment. Maintaining control of the disease contributes to quality of life and satisfactory longevity in the elderly.
