Abstract

Chronic tobacco use is currently a social phenomenon that affects indiscriminately all sectors of the population and constitutes one of the major problems faced by health authorities. This work was carried out with the aim of expanding knowledge about smoking and describing the benefits of physical exercise on human health in the months of October and November 2019. A bibliographic review of 20 updated articles was performed, by consulting databases of referative systems, such as MEDLINE, LILACS,IBECS, Scielo, with the use of descriptors such as smoking, addiction, health prevention; as main results are reflected: the components of tobacco and the damage it causes to health, the damage to pregnant women and children are exposed, recommendations to quit smoking, preventive actions, the benefits of the practice of physical exercise. It is concluded that smoking is a serious health problem in communities, affecting the individual, the family and society in general, and is associated with multiple diseases, mainly cardiovascular diseases and cancer, which are nowadays the leading causes of death in the adult population.
