Adherence to treatment in hypertensive patients at the Medical Clinic 6

Abstract

Introduction: arterial hypertension represents an important burden of morbidity worldwide, the lack of adherence to treatment has medical, economic and psychosocial repercussions.
Objective: to characterize adherence to treatment in hypertensive patients at the Juan Bruno Zayas polyclinic medical office No. 6, Mantua, during the period January 2021 - June 2023.
Methods: an observational, descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted, the universe consisted of 403 patients classified as hypertensive, a sample of 88 hypertensive patients was selected by non-probabilistic sampling, theoretical and empirical methods were used, such as the Martín-Bayarre-Grau questionnaire to assess adherence and a survey to measure knowledge about the disease and the factors that influence non-adherence to treatment, descriptive statistics were used in absolute and relative frequencies.
Results: predominance of the age group over 60 years, female sex, and pre-university level; the time of evolution of the disease was more than 10 years; the influential factor in non-adherence to treatment was forgetfulness and less than half of the sample studied presented adherence to treatment.
Conclusions: the lack of adherence to treatment in hypertensive patients at the Juan Bruno Zayas polyclinic medical office 6 is a health problem that needs to be solved.
