Arterial hypertension: a global public health challenge and the need for comprehensive strategies

Abstract

High blood pressure affects more than 1 billion people and is one of the main causes of morbidity and mortality. This chronic condition, often asymptomatic in its early stages, can lead to serious cardiovascular diseases if not managed properly. Its risk factors include modifiable elements such as obesity and a sedentary lifestyle, as well as non-modifiable factors such as genetics and age. Effective management of hypertension requires timely diagnosis, medical treatment, and significant lifestyle changes. The present study aims to develop educational strategies to reduce complications. Through a qualitative-quantitative approach with the development of a survey, it was learned that the majority of patients do not have knowledge about their disease, are sedentary and do not follow an adequate diet, nor do they engage in physical activity. It is concluded to propose education strategies that promote healthy environments on hypertension to mitigate its global impact and thus improve quality of life and reduce the economic burden on health systems
