Abstract

Introduction: human papillomavirus has become a major health problem, its morbidity and mortality rates are increasing despite the large diagnostic and therapeutic programs achieved in recent years.

Objective: to evaluate the effectiveness of an educational intervention on human papillomavirus knowledge.

Methods: an intervention study was carried out to modify knowledge about the human papillomavirus in women of childbearing age at CMF #25, in the health area of Pons in the municipality of Minas de Matahambre during the period from May 2020 to May 2022, the universe was made up of 151 women, and the sample selected by criteria was 109.

Results: the predominant age range was 20 to 29 years, and the risk factors present in the sample were the presence of sexual relations beginning before 18 years of age, multiple sexual partners, and unprotected sexual relations. Significant differences were found between the evaluation before and after the level of knowledge about the risk of frequent change of partners and sexually transmitted diseases and their relationship with the human papilloma virus, as well as smoking, the use of hormonal contraceptives and the importance of the cytological test as a means of early diagnosis.

Conclusions: it is demonstrated that the application of the educational intervention strategy was of great importance in terms of increasing the knowledge of risk factors for human papillomavirus in patients of CMF 25 of the Pons health area in the municipality of Minas de Matahambre.
