Introduction: Ultrasound is emerging in the managment of critical patient care in Intensive Care Units. Objective: to describe the benefits of the use of ultrasound in the care of critically patients. Method: a total of 51 sources were reviewed in the Pubmed, SciELO and Ebsco databases, during the months of January and February 2022, of which 37 citations were used in English and Spanish, all from the last five years. The search terms “ultrasound and critically ill patien”, “ultrasound and Intensive Care Unit” were used. Developing: the are multiple uses given to ultrasound in critically ill patients, wich includes early diagnosis, monitoring and the performance of procedures and techiques, howwere the main objetive of its use in critically ill patients is to allow a better and earlier therapeutic management. Conclusions: ultrasound is iseful in the care of seriously ill patients and all its modalities are very useful in the Intensive Care Units, both to help make decisions and to guide the performance of procedures.
